The bolt actions are fine - sometimes they need a bit of a push to load but they never wear out and are easily maintainable. Normally plenty around at sub £100 and quite likely with a cut down stock too.

But be aware of the law on "ownership" - what you are doing is purchasing a gun for yourself that your daughter also be able to use, until she has her own SGC.

My son is 7 and loves using "my" (calls it his 410) Webley B/A, so much so that I'm going to have to buy another one!

He's big for his age which helps, but initially he had to shoot from a rest or with me supporting it. He can now support the shotgun himself and has no problem operating the bolt.

As Polchraine says, you can pick them for under £100, mine I got for £35. So if you're prepared to do some searching under £50 is possible (and don't forget to pick one up for yourself!)

Have had a look on a certain website which has a "Gun Trading" facility. There are a couple of them in Chorley at £75 and £85 which is just a short drive from you. So further away and the prices rise! There is one on sale at £225 - I would want 1000 cartridges thrown in at that price.

Why not get the pair and spend time renovating one of them - bring the wood up to showroom condition, then do the same to the other.

I think it is great if you can involve them at a young age, I picked up a 9mm Garden gun for my daughter years ago however she seemed to enjoy .22LR S/A pistol more as she could just keep going with it.

Just bought her a webley ... not bad condition ... gun, gunslip and a box of ammo £105 ... very pleased ...
Im considering getting some wire wool on the stock and then giving it a danish oil finish ... i did this once to an air-rifle i had and the results were very worthwhile !
Cant wait for Xmas day now !

Give it a full strip down and clean. It will only take 5 minutes to strip and 10 to reassemble.

It is going to be a box of shells under the tree, then the gunslip and wait and see how long before she asks where the gun is?

yup , the plan is ... box of ammo wrapped up under the tree ... gunslip with toy gun in it also wrapped under the tree .... then play it by ear .... probably then i will go up , get the gun out and come downstairs with it with a big bow around it .... still working on the final part to be honest !!
