Is there a standard thread for black powder nipples or does it depend on the gun maker.
As in Uberti
As in Ruger or what ever you get my drift.

Generally speaking, yes I’ve found. But that is caveated with when a gun was made. Ruger Old Army is standard throughout, but the Italian replicas, no they are not. If it’s a fairly new manufactured Uberti or Pietta, Kranks should have spares. If an older model, Track Of The Wolf or Thunder Ranch Nipples have all sorts of sizes listed.

Thunder Ridge, not Ranch.

I did a google search for both companies. Thunder ridge returns nothing but forum posts referring to them but no links that work. The other Company is in the USA.
I was hoping for something a bit nearer to home.

You’re really limited and Kranks will be your best bet. Track of the Wolf and Dixie Gun Works ship to the UK.

Sorry to resurrect an oldish thread...

I've just acquired a S/H Pietta Remington NMA in Stainless and it looks like the nipples have seen better days, so I think its time for replacements.

Looking on Kranks, I can buy SS nipples for the Pietta at £4.10 each, or I can buy a set of 6 blued steel nipples and a wrench (which I don't have) for the same price of £24.60. (Made by Pedersoli, but apparently suitable for Italian made pistols including Pietta).

My question is, is there any advantage to the SS nipples...?? (Harder, longer lasting??), or should I go with the blued steel and wrench to save a few pennies..?? I don't think the blued steel would be noticable buried in the back of the stainless cylinder.

Any thoughts or recommendations..?

Daryll.

What do you mean by "seen better days"? Are the nipples in much worse condition than the rest of the pistol? If those nipples are difficult to remove you may find that wrench in the kit is not up to the job. I have one of those here that is chewed up from being asked to remove too many stubborn nipples - not always on second-hand pistols. A good quality nipple key will prove its worth in the long run.
