Deer Stalking… reliable word of mouth recommendation from someone you know has undertaken such stalking being offered by a specific syndicate is best. Like other walks of life, stalking has its scammers. E.G., make sure there is deer, of the species sought, on the land being made available; that appropriate insurance is in place; that there is recourse for recompense if it all goes wrong. In addition, obtain and understand terms and conditions; consider the implications of allowing a syndicate leader to be a FAC mentor; make sure ‘coaches’ are suitably qualified; consider the quality of deer management, the construction & execution of a shooting plan and safety; determine if the land is over-shot.

If in doubt, contact BASC or similar.

Mårhund - Bad news from Russia.

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

I had heard of these but never seen one until this morning, apparently they originate in Russia and have got as far as Denmark. This one was taken by a dog last night. The local chaps tell me they are filthy things, very aggressive and will play dead. Lets hope they do not get as far as the UK. It is open season on them over here in Denmark right now as they are an invasive species.

Car keys for scale, this one weighs around 5kgs was in good condition and is possibly a juvenile, apparently they have recorded litters of up to 19. They are excellent swimmers and climbers and prefer woodland, they will eat anything including fruit, road kill, insects, birds and rodents.

Rumour has it they grow to the body weight of a fox but with shorter legs and tail and a lot more attitude, a fox will always back away from one of these things.
