We wanted to visit Esbjerg CWGC last time over but time was against us so this time we found the time and the place and spent an hour or so walking round in quiet contemplation and I thought I would share some of my typically poor pictures.
The Danes buried at Fourfelt, these included Seafolk, Freedom fighters and Fishermen killed in English waters Some of the Commonwealth graves, behind the hedge are German war graves One thing that struck me was how many German graves are doubled up, also there were a lot of East European names, conscripts maybe? Also a significant number were German women. An unknown Russian rests within the Commonwealth soldiers. So many Germans died in Denmark, not all were known and Fourfelt seems to be the last resting place for many more Germans than Commonwealth soldiers. A final sad note, the Germans took to clearing murders, retaliation for the actions of the freedom fighters, these three Danes were a pastor, a Doctor and a newspaper editor.
