Changing Primers

Morning,

Ive done a fair bit of research but keep getting conflicting info.

How much difference does a change of primer brand/type make.

Ive got a load im happy with on my 6.5CM with cci std large primers but they will run out and the options are change brand or rework with small primer brass. Am i looking at a complete new work up or is there a safe way to use the current load as a start point?

Ive got large and small, standard and magnum options.

Cheers
Nat

It can make a difference with both accuracy and/or pressure.
The normal guidance given in most reloading manuals (consult yours to confirm this) is that you should reduce your charges by 10% when making any changes to components and to work back up in small increments.

Interestingly, the reloading article this month in Rifle Shooter is about primers and it states changing the primer has the least effect on the load compared to changing powder, brass etc.

I use Sellior and Bellot, Federal, PPU and CCI and have not noticed any difference.
