Here's a small Colt Revolver with the 'D' Frame & a 2 1/2 inch barrel.
The production number places it within 1968, coincidently matching the model used in the 1968 Bullitt film, where Frank Bullitt (Steve McQueen) carries a Colt Diamondback snubnose revolver as his sidearm.
It's light weight with a good aftermarket grip & a factory target sight. Finished in Colt Blue.
Despite the short barrel it sights reasonably well and is an enjoyable shoot.

Re: Colt Diamondback
I had a similar revolver, a Webley 3 inch pocket revolver with the overhand grip and safety catch in .32 S&W long. I used to enjoy shooting it until it was compulsorily purchased from me against my will.

Re: Colt Diamondback
That's a difficult and sorry loss Peter.
From your description it would have been a pleasure to shoot.
