Pyrodex reclassification

Just a heads up that Pyrodex much like triple seven a few years ago is now covered by the explosive regulations and in future a explosives certificate will be required to acquire and keep the stuff. If you are applying or submitting a variation for a certificate for Pyrodex you will have specify UN0499 and UN0501 on the form.

I'm not a fan of the stuff myself but i would have thought this now pretty much removes Pyrodex's raison d'etre as the same storage and certification requirements for black powder now apply.

Evidently the HSE as no view on this as to its cause for the change or its validity.

The reality I suspect is that the wholesalers will only pass this on to dealers if they have the correct classification numbers on it regardless of its validity.

If it is on the "tin" then if you don't have the correct classification on your explosives certificate then no sell.

As has been said at least now there is no need to use the vile stuff as you need to go through the same hoops for it and black powder now. Especially as the price difference 'tween Pyrodex and high quality Swiss black powder is only a few quid per couple of pounds.
