Was on the range Sunday with some of my reloads when I was getting lights strikes every so often, re-cocked they worked just fine.
I thought Pin/Spring problem, but why was it not effecting all of them, so investigated on a Schmidt forum and it seems that this particular cartridge is very particular with regards to bullet seating depth occasionally effecting the bolt from not fully locking into position depending on the force used to close the bolt, So measured mine and found them to be about a1mm too long, so going to reload and reset the depth. ((Has anybody else a view on this or has had a similar experience))

I have had a similar problem with a Mauser getting light strikes about 50% of the time. Turned out it was the stock stopping the bolt from closing properly unless forced. 10 minutes with a carving knife and some sandpaper and it was firing nicely again. I guess its a similar problem with a different cause.

The force used to close the bolt is the more likely cause. If the bolt has not gone all the way home you will see a portion of the bolt handle protruding from its guide slot in the receiver. You will quickly get into the habit of checking this before you pull the trigger.

The re-try was probably enough to drive the bolt fully closed. The serial number stamped on the bolt is at 12 o'clock when it is fully closed, at least for a K31. I had this issue also, my bullets were seated out just enough to be touching the rifling and stopping the bolt from closing all the way. I didn't have an issue with the same reloads in my K11s.

I tried reducing the OAL but made no difference, what I did find was, I am using Sellior and Bellot large rifle primers and approx. 2 in 12 seemed harder I noticed it when inserting the pr1mers, no problems with my other military calibres, but the K31 has a strange and unusual spring pin assembly and I think that it has an inherently weaker strike ? Still its a top notch rifle and a favourite.
