Hello
I Have been reading CE Harris on reduced rifle loading, it would appear that 13grns Red Dot, and 20grns 2400 can be used in either lead/fmj
But these powders are extremely difficult to obtain. I was at one time using 23grns 5744 or Lovex D060 but these are now non existent.
I there anybody out there using a reduced powder load in military cases loading that uses FMJs with an available powder.
what about the faster Vits N110 or N120

Do not use Harris's Red Dot loads, Harris "recalled" his original article on guns.rec as this load was very near the top end and could easily give over pressure.

I have been using N110 and N120 as my go to cast bullet powders for decades.

There is much on here about such loadings an intelligent search should answer all your questions, if not then come back.

One of the late members of our club used to swear by a reduced load of Bullseye in his .303. I'm no advocate of reduced loads so I would never want to try it, but maybe someone on here can verify it.

Fast pistol powders work well for mouse fart loads with light bullets with just a pinch of powder, trying to use fast powders for faster loads is a recipe for disaster.

Harris recommends 5 gns of Bullseye, I would consider this a maximum.

More velocity requires slower powders.

Hello
I am not looking for fast pistol powder loads, I was looking for a fast range rifle powder perhaps Vit 110 with a reduced loading using fmj bullets.
I am looking for a less shoulder thumper. I was until recently using powders 5744,D060, and 4198 in loadings around 25grns and these were perfect for my needs, until they have become unavailable.

I find N120 to be better in most cases than N110, N110 works I just find N120's properties suit my loading better.

Either powder and you won't go wrong.

I found the Viht powders to be far superior to the Accurate/lovex powders, being far more flexible.

As we are often being told on here, use the powder manufacturer's data which includes a starting load. If the rifle is thumping your shoulder too much just fit a rubber butt pad.

Hello.
Sorry redcat if you want to be a sheep and follow the herd do it, the whole point of reloading is experimentation.
Military loading are for ranges up to 1000yds if you are only shooting at 100 what`s the point of putting full loads in.
When I was shooting Lovex D060 there loading data showed for large cases and military calibre reduced loads ?
Most cast bullet loading are around 25grn as any thing else could cause leading at speeds over 1500

I'll let the powder companies do the experimenting and abide by their advice.
