Would welcome any feedback/experiences of people who have owned the Kar’s? Have come across one in good condition but it surprises me they don’t appear to have the love of the K98? Ty all.

hello
Is it a K98 or a K98az as I have owned both.
Picture would be useful. As there are a myriad of variations and manufacturers.

Hello
From the limited pictures, the rifle appears to be a WW1 Mauser Kar98az.
I owned in my time a couple of these rifles and found them to be lighter than the K98 and with heavy recoil when using factory loads, accuracy was so so with 3-4 inches at 100yds. From a collectors point of view that are an interesting historical piece that many people wish to acquire, for that reason they can be unusually expensive. If you are considering a purchase, be diligent in your checks and if unsure take a knowledgeable person with you.
Would I buy it, "yes" but the price and condition would have to be right.

I’m going to correct my blonde statement. It doesn’t have a take down so will be walnut hence the lack of B on the butt as well.

Hello
If you mean the circular bolt take down disc, the Kar98az was never fitted with it, they were made with both Walnut and Beech, only the K98 had the disc.
B on the Butt ?

Hi Bill

I’ve come across several with a take down disk. All are WW1 vintage and not a 1920 or EWB afterthought?

hello
Possibly take down discs were fitted to post 1916 versions during stock change introduction included finger grooves, and after war variations to match k98 introductions 1934. Kar98az were issued to volkssturm, second line troops, and some units of the SS
