I have been reading about these and how everyone says good things about it. I had a birthday recently and got some money given instead of presents so I lashed out and bought one. I have never had a chronograph before. I tested it yesterday on our 20 yard indoor .22 range. I fired 40 shots and it picked up every one. I did two 10 shot strings of CCI standard and two 10 shot strings of RWS Geco rifle ammunition. The CCI averaged 1057.2 for the first 10 shots and 1050.5 for the second 10 shots. The Geco averaged 1000.5 for the first 10 shots and 985.4 for the second 10 shots. So, the Geco is about 50fps slower than the CCI. These were all fired through a BSA Century rifle.
The object of the exercise was to test the chronograph rather than the ammunition. I am looking forward to using on the outdoor range to see how my home loads compare and how good or bad they are.

A long time coming but now we have an accurate, small, easy to set up chrono. My club has just bought one for members use.

I'm sorely tempted to update my Magnetospeed for one, as its more complex to get aligned with the bore etc. vs. the Garmin.

I've used a Magnetospeed sporter for years and recently upgraded to the Garmin. The Garmin has worked flawlessly, picking up every shot from an indoor 25m range and an outdoor 100m range. Have used it with 22lr, 357mag, 303brit and 6.5x47 Lapua.

I couldn't use the Magnetospeed with certain rifles (Lee Enfield due to the fore-end stock, Marlin 1894 due to the tubular magazine) but this doesn't prevent use of the Garmin. Also, since you don't mount it to the gun, there's no question of the barrel harmonics being affected so during load development you don't have to shoot one string to measure velocity and another string to measure group size.

Yes it's expensive, but IMO it's worth it.

I sold my Labradar and bought one of these........the Shotview app is also worth getting if you keep a record of your shooting. It makes file transfer from the Xero to a PC easy.
I tried mine with a .177 B96 CO2 pistol in my garage,(which is 20ft long), and it detected every shot. The pistol is a 5-shot self loading type.
