Just a question to see what the norm us, My sons just asked his local doctor what would be the cost of filling in the medical paperwork for a shotgun license is (he wants to do a bit of clay shooting).
He was told £75 to complete the forms and two weeks bring the average time it takes, that seems a bit steep to me, it seems to bit high for 10 minutes work.
I have my FAC renewal next year and am starting go wonder if i should startvsaving up for it what with all the other price increases!!

My doctor charged £45 and I had to book an appointment that I had to wait a month for. He checked my record and filled in the form whilst I sat there.

Mine charged me £18 but that was 4 years ago. I've heard of everything from free to £300+

The form is literally a tick box of about 12-14 questions, I still felt ripped off when I saw it but was still a lot more fortunate than some!

EDIT: They did it in 3 days

Last year, £45 which I feel is a rip off. The admin to raise an invoice and send me a copy of the form probably took more time than completing the form. Turn round from paying to receipt of form - just over 24 hours.

Five years previous, when they were not compulsory and only required if the FEO asked the GP, I was told it would be Free.

We are told time and again that FAC/SGCs with associated enquireies including medical are "for the protection of the general population" - so why does the general population not have to pay for them!

Medcert shoot cert charge £60 +vat & NRA / NSRA members get a 10% discount - use ur membership number.

A lot of assumptions in this thread that its 'just a form', but that form is completed by reading a persons medial records & those might be an hours read?
Beware of GPs that 'add comments' next to the tick box when its ticked as 'No' - get them to replace the form with just the tick! before the FLO starts asking questions you might not have to or want to answer?
By comparison the std med check for a PSV driver is £80 inc an in person blood pressure heart check.

Mine was £90 I think and took a little over a week

Mine charged £120 and took one day

Only if you have a 'complex'* medical history, which I do not and i'm sure the majority of certificate holders do not. I'd be shocked if it takes more than 5 mins.

*complex as in relevant conditions to firearms ownership.

Mine was £40 last year - essentially the same price they charge for all non NHS letters/forms/reports/certificates

They still managed to get my fathers form wrong, missed putting a tick in a box which caused no end of faff as the police wouldn't accept it without countersigned correction

I sent in my form and it was returned in 3 days and cost £50.
