The Project.

Over the years I have been acutely aware of just how much heat from my open fire has been going up the chimney. I have quite a large Flu. So I have decided to have a Dual Fuel Stove installed. As I am not over busy work wise at the moment I decided to do the donkey work myself. I hadn’t realised what hard work it would be or quite how much material would have to come out.
The view up the chimney.
Just the start, loads more came out.
This is the second load waiting to be taken away.
Ready to start rebuilding.
All filled in and ready to render.
And that’s where I am at the moment, waiting fot the man to come and measure and supply the slate base before I fit it and render. up the back and sides.

I'm not sure what liner will be used , the chap who is going to line the chimney and actually fit the stove is a professional and a chum so I will leave that up to him. I'm pretty sure he will use a flexible stainless steel liner, (but will check) It will have to be flexible as the flu has a bit of a kink in it.

I will watch this project with interest as I seem to remember you live in an old cottage like us and we have talked about this for a while. Be warned though, if you make it look to easy I may have to report this thread!

Great fun though. Can't do much else round the house i.e. electrics or plumbing but I do love playing with mortar!!

The hardest part will be the waiting about for my chum to fit us in needless to say this is his busy time of year. I will keep you posted .
We do have oil fired central heating so we won't go cold.
We only have room for the smallest of stoves. this is the one we have gone for............... I think!

Good job Jenks.
I do/have done all the electrics and plumbing, central heating, audio visual, decorating, etc etc...concreted in the odd line of fence posts but never did a fire place.
We used to have a Trianco gravity feed boiler with a metal-bestos stainless steel stack strapped onto the outside of our extension to our miners' cottage back in the 70s.
Boy 3 doors up had an airgun for Christmas and put 2 holes in it...his Dad gave him a thrashing and he didn't shoot near it again.

Are you having a back boiler fitted to keep the hot water topped up?

When it's done you won't know yourself!
Our two dogs take over the space in front, the glow is the true center of the room. The whole house gets heated. A bottle of Rioja and a pasty and I'm there for the night! Roll on Xmas! I also find it a good gentle heat to dry wet shooting kit that can accumulate this end of the year.
Just stocked up the man cave with logs and the smell in there is nearly better than Kroil!
We had our flue backfilled with insulation beads to locate the liner - if that helps you?
