.308 Win Remington Factory Varmint Barrel

I am replacing my 26" .308 Win Remington Factory Varmint Barrel. This is the "heavy" barrel that Remington put on their Police and SPS rifles.

This one was first shot in June 2010 and has exactly 410 rounds through it. A mixture of HPS and hand loads, nothing too hot as I am still learning the re loading game and am taking it steady.

Although Remington say that there is no need to "shoot the barrel in" I did spend a day doing this for Peace of mind. The Barrel has not fired over 100 rounds without being properly cleaned at any one time.

At time of handing the Rifle over to Mik at Dolphin Firearms http://www.dolphinguncompany.co.uk/pages/view/244 it had only one small blemish to the underside where it was touching the nasty Remington SPS stock.

Mik has the Barrel at the moment, at some point in January he will be handing it to Fred James (RFD) at Bisley for safe keeping / sale.

I would like to get £80 for this but should you be wanting to swap something, give me a try. I don't mind the offer if you don't mind a refusal!

Only reason for taking this barrel off is to put a 32" barrel on which will see me get better results at 1000 + yards. As far as I am concerned this is a perfectly good barrel.

Hey - well done with that 32 inch barrel - look forward to seeing it in action next season.

I'm tempted. I've got a Parker Hale 'scout' stalking rifle in '308 that has a 19" standard (i.e lightweight) barrel on it with unknown rounds through it. Was thinking of getting a newer heavier barrel and then cutting it down to the same length as the old one....Will have a word with my gunsmith to see what he reckons....
