is that because Marconi had not even started work when you were and lad?

I live near the town which is the home of Marconi , when I was a lad my radio was a wooden box with a dial on the front a pair of RAF headphones and a length of wire which was attached to the springy curtain wire at the window to increase the aerials length , I also had a cats whisker radio set , those were the days .

I used to have to deal with that lot ... One division in Basildon was nicknamed Marconi Senseless or GEC Senseless at various times.

My Father made us crystal radio sets as kids, built in Yardley shaving soap containers with the aerial wire connected to the brass curtain rail, I spent many hours listening to far away voices with an ear piece. I also remember being laid up in bed for six weeks and listening to radio Luxemburg for many hours, that was probably 1963 as we had the bad winter around the same time.
