A good friend of mine needs a magazine for a No.4 Enfield 7.62 conversion. Can anyone point me in the right direction to pick one up quickly, as without going into too much detail he only has month's to enjoy this.

I've tried all the UK suppliers I can think of, but would appreciate your help on this one.

Thanks in advance.

These guys "might" be able to help. Can't promise it, though.

They specialise in Enfields

Has the rifle in the OP been converted for an Enfield 7.62mm mag? If not, it may well not fit and function properly.

Factory 7.62mm rifles were milled on the underside of the boltway in order to ensure that the Enfield mag would sit correctly, and that in particular the ejector tab had a space to fit.

Non-factory rifles - e.g. gunsmith converted target rifles and ordinary No4s - have slight manufacturing variations which mean that some can accept an Enfield mag without modification, but most can't. Lots of gunsmith-built 7.62mm No4 target rifles were intended to retain a .303" mag as loading platform.

Sterling 7.62mm magazines will fit any No4 action, but they were designed to be used with a separate ejector button drilled into the receiver wall. Consequently, some rifles fitted with a Sterling mag but not the ejector button won't eject cleanly (ejection depends upon friction with the receiver wall, the ejector itself being a back-up).

Ishapore 2A1 magazines will often fit a No4, functioning in a similar manner to the Sterling.

I had a Charnwood Ordnance No4 Mk1 in 7.62 with a 1960s dated Enfield mag and that fed perfectly but from what I was told the Enfield mags are scarce, mine was mint and I was offered £150 for it (why they thought I would sell the only mag I had for that rifle I don't know!!!???).
