Death Valley trip

The Missus and two of the kids and I took a quick trip to Death Valley last weekend. It is a bit of a drive from my house, 6 hours with a couple of stops along the way. Once you are in the boundries of the park everything seems to be at least an hour's drive from anywhere! We put over 700 miles on the Jeep on this trip but it was worth it. Weather was mid 70s during the day and mostly sunny. We went with another couple who are DV veterans so they showed us around and helped us hit the high spots.

Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure.

Great pictures! Look at all those people as well!

It reminds me of some of the well known beauty spots in the UK, the places can be packed with people but walk a mile or two and you are completely on your own with only the sounds of nature to keep you company.

Landscape is fantastic, I am especially impressed with the layers in the rocks.

And...on the way home we stopped at a nice little desert gun shop. I found this sitting on the counter. It wasn't for sale..

But this was for sale. I found it in a junk box and bought it for $20 and sold it to a shooter who needed one for his rifle. Can you identify it? I knew what it was a soon as I saw it and couldn't believe it was there. I sold it for $100 and probably could've sold it for $200 but the guy needed one in a bad way so I helped him out.
