I was reading quite recently that although you can manufacture (Load) ammunition in the UK as long as it is on your FAC you cannot legally pull it apart again afterwards. I certainly pull loaded rounds from time to time and I am sure many other re-loaders do.

So are we all breaking the law if we do this?

Yeah, there was some malarky about this several years ago. I think it was started because of the introduction of the VCR Act, which had something in it about this, but it was soon sorted by thr organisations and the HO.

You're not breaking the law by dismantling.

PHEW!!!!! thats a relief I pulled about 10 apart yesterday that wouldn't chamber in the .308

Well you know that dodgy .308 Remington you sold me a couple of years ago!! :lol: No only kidding,

I've had it rebarreled with a 32" 1/10 Trueflite for having a bash at FTR comps next year, been down the club today and shot it in,

I made a start on load development as well just some basic loads 45, 45.5 and 46 grains of Varget and a 175 SMK. I think I need to get hold of some heavier bullets though maybe 190's or even 200's to see how they go.

The dismantling of ammunition comes under the same heading as dismantling a firearm - in other words, making it dissappear.

I don't think the act was ever intended to relate to re-loading but rather to keep track of ammunition which could 'fall into the wrong hands'.

In other words, if you bought 500 rounds of 7.62 from your RFD and the police called round and asked to see it and you didn't have it, the only options are - you shot it off or you sold it legally (of which there would be a record). You couldn't say "I dismantled it and threw away the components."

I wasn't aware that law had 'dissappeared' as it is tied-in with dismantling firearms.

The law hasn't disappeared, but Home Office guidance to police accepts that dismantling ammunition for handloaders is a necessary practice and hence allowed.

Hey Alan! Nice to know that old clunker is still going!!! :lol: :lol:

Great news, I look forward to seeing it end of next month if you can make the meet. That 'dodgy' rifle was shooting very nicely last time out so I am looking forward to watching it shoot with the TrueFlite.
