Any body heard of - or used - or bought Swiss Precision Powder?

Just saw it on an American website and wondered if it was really Swiss.

I have shot a few from a 6x45 with J-words, seems a little slower than IMR. Accuracy was great, very clean burning. I was using what would have been a max charge with IMR powder, but it appeared I had room to go up a bit more. The powder has a high solvent smell to it. I have some Krag loads that I've not tried yet, some 168s in the 2000fps range.

It is IMR 4198 he is refering to.

If it is true Swiss powder I would expect it to be from RUAG Ammotec however I do not think they sell to the masses.

I have a mate in Switzerland who used to be an armourer and I remember him saying ammunition was very cheap in Switzerland and the government actively encouraged people to shoot. He was in 300m competitions most weekends. His passion other than anything automatic used to be old S-R's for target shooting and I cannot recall him mentioning Swiss powders.

Who knows where powders come from now, a lot of the US suppliers source from Sweden and Australia, and lord alone knows where else, according to their labels. Its a big multi national business the arms industry and handloading components are just a fraction of the sweepings of their table.

I used to shoot Lapua 170 Lockbase which are used in the Lapua HPS ammunition. When I researched with a view to building my own HPS it turned out Lapua used Bofors powders despite the extensive range of Viht powders they market.

Serbia seems to be the place these days for powders, ammunition and machinery.

The only Swiss manufacturer I know of is Nitrochemie (formerly Wimmis) they have a web site but is not very useful as it does not have any description of the powders they make.They have a special manufacturing process and they make for Alliant reloder 17.
These powders are not easy to find even in Switzerland and they are very expensive.I did contact
them and be told they want a minimum order of 400 KG per lot.
It does belong to the Rheinmetall holding whose customers have no problems meeting these requirements.
