For the last few years I have seen the price of Lee Enfields steadily rise, possibly as a result makes that were previously obscure and or low price have started to become main stream and have as a consequence seen prices steadily rise. perfect examples in my mind would be the Schmidt Rubin and the Moisin Nagant, the later being the most horrible rifle I have ever handled (horses for courses etc) but people are now raving about them.

So assuming that the current budget shooters are also going to rise in price, What is left to come out of the stores?
Will we see Chinese, Japanese or even French rifles come on the market?

One day people will spot the MAS and it will start to climb in price.

There were a load of Mas rifles released just after the handgun ban. One club I was a member of then, saw just about everyone buy one! (I didn't) If memory serves, they were less than 100 quid each and surplus ammo was around a tenner a 100!

What about new barrels and other spare parts for Enfields rather than complete new 'old' rifles. I know Lothar Walther (?) is supposed to be making new No. 4 barrels.

Funnily enough I had that as a part 2 to my question, will people start to become less fussy re matching serial numbers etc. To be honest having a new barrel on a rifle would be more important to me than a original that is shot out.

I was speaking with Ian of ITL yesterday and he told me that he is selling some M1 30 cal straight pull rifles which, if I understand correctly, have been made from parts minus the gas tube, but with new barrels. Apparently he sold 12 at the Phoenix, which got me thinking.

In the US the MN is very popular but they say the supply of cheap rifles is drying up , French rifles must be good never been fired and only dents in the woodwork from being dropped :lol:

I have a 1941 Lithgow and a 1950 Long Branch all original. I shoot them some but not excessively. If and when the barrels are shot out I'd be happy to replace them with a new made replacement. I'd be happy if it had the new makers mark on it etc. making it clear that it wasn't the original.

I recently had a No4 re-barreled, I was lucky enough to find a brand new barrel still in it's original wrapping for $60. To be honest apart for the numbers on the bolt and receiver matching I'm not too worried about it not being the original barrel. Over the years I must have put thousands of rounds through that rifle, I've taken deer with it, even took a bear with it many years ago up in Canada and of course shot lots of paper with it. Not shot it yet with the new barrel fitted but if it shoots as accurately and gives me as much pleasure the rifle has given me over the years then I'll be happy.

I recently threw away some old gun magazines, (meeces got at them)

In one was an ad. offering number four rifles, still in the packing grease, for £24.00.

My weekly wage at that time would have been about that so it wasn't a cheap gun.

I have a Fazackerley 1946 with a contemporary replacement barrel.

Love it.

A lottery win would see me getting my most coveted military rifle
