Hi everyone
I am very new to the sport so please be gentle.
I have seen a rifle for sale with Caliber - 7.5x55 Swiss (GP11).
If and I mean IF I have 7.62 on my ticket would I be able to buy this rifle?
Would it be wise to ask for a slot 7.5/7.62/.303 to cover all bases.

Hi,
In answer to your first question - No, you would need authority to purchase a 7.5x55.
The 7.62(x51) or .308 is a different calibre.
Usually easier/better to decide on what you want before the application, although doing 1 for 1 swaps on slots (Which calibre you can buy) is not too difficult with most force areas. Whereabouts in the country are you?
Mike

Welcome to the forum and to shooting?
You will need a 1-for-1 variation from 7.62 if you don't have a 7.5 on your ticket.
7.5, 7.62, 303 are all separate calibres and are not interchangeable on an FAC.
The Schmidt Rubins are fine rifles.
There is one at an excellent price on the For Sale forum here.
Why don't you introduce your self on the New Members Forum?

Yes I saw that sounds really interesting and a great price but no FAC yet and wondered if it was reasonable to ask for more than one caliber in a slot.

Yes, you can certainly ask for more than one slot, assuming you are mostly going to be target shooting you could comfortably ask for 3-4 rifles assuming your FEO is a reasonable chap (They invariably are)
So as an example
.223
7,5x55
.308
.303

also ask for moderators on the .223 and .308, even if not used those slots can be "traded" for other rifles at a later date with no extra cost, don't forget an FAC lasts 5 years and interests change, it is also useful to describe the calibres as .308/7.62 and .223/5.56 to avoid confusion. the 7.5x55 is actually the same calibre (7.62) as the .308 only the cartridge is different, (may mean you can reload with the same bullets if both rifles like them)

We have a Swiss K31 in 7.5x55 in our collection, and it is one of the most accurate rifles we own. Genuine Swiss GP11 ammo is currently available from
http://www.ammo-zone.co.uk too. It's not cheap, but shoots very well - the Swiss Olympic team used it in preference to match grade ammo...
