Scott, is it for an AICS stock, Badger Ordnance etc?

Not wanting to teach you to such eggs, but the mags for the .243 are .308 ones.

Morning Sim,

It's in a McMillan Varmint stock. This is the rifle I bought http://ukvarminting.com/forums/index.ph ... opic=15610

No probs, I did read somewhere when I googled the mag that it was the same as the .308 but this is my first FB rifle so still reading up on the basics.

Cheers

you can use the aics mags, short action will cover 243/260/7-08/308/358 the only issue might be if your 243ai has had the mags modifyied to improve feeding? ask the smith who built it or compare the mags side by side paying particular attention to the feed lips and follower.

Nice looking rifle!

I see where tackb is coming from, but I doubt it's a concern as 40 degree shoulders are not that square. Surely in your club there's someone else with an AI magazine system? Anything based on the .308 case will do. Ask to give their mags a go. Sporting Services who are in this boards Vendors section are AI specialists. Give them a bell and they should sort you out in short order.

.243 is an outstanding cartridge and often over looked because of predjudice in this country. Load it with light bullets and it'll do foxes and other vermin decisively, flat and far. 80 to 90 grainers will drop any UK game and 115's make a fantastic target cartridge out to 1000 yards and a little bit more. Some top competitors see it as the cartridge of choice for Tactical comps. The Ackley Improved just does it a little faster.... Watch for barrel wear though. The improved has a reputation as a bit of a burner.

A thread hijack......... why not!

Better? No. Different? Yes, a little, but not better. From George Gardner, reputed to be one of the best Precision/Tactical rifle builders in the business and a top Tac Rifle competitor.

".243 Win For Tactical Comps? George Gardner on why he chose .243 Winchester for his Tactical Comp Gun. "Why would I run anything else? Think about it. I'm sending a .585 BC 115 at 3150 fps--that'll shoot inside the 6XC and .260 Rem with ease. I'm pretty sure I have found the Holy Grail of Comp Rifles. There are no brass issues like you can get forming .260 brass. I don't have to worry about doughnuts, reaming necks--none of that. And the choice in brass is great too--run Lapua if you want max reloads and great accuracy. Run Winchester if you're on a budget, and so you won't cry if you lose some cases in a match. I can get 10-round mags, and feeding is 100% reliable, since the case is identical to a .308 except for the neck. Accuracy-wise, I don't think I'm giving up anything to the .260 Rem or the 6XC." We then asked George if he'd considered using a .243 AI instead: "Yeah, the cases look cool with that 40° shoulder, but I think the standard .243 feeds a little better. And I don't think I really need the extra performance of an improved case. Run the ballistics for my load--115 moly DTAC at 3150 fps. You've got less windage than a 2950 fps 6.5-284, with cheaper brass, cheaper dies, cheaper bullets, and less recoil."

You can indeed get .260Rem brass in Lapua, I even have a couple of boxes here and at GBP82/100 it is not a bad price really..
