Question for you mate, if said Snider had a new barrel fitted would it then be permanently Sec1 and forfeit rights to Sec 58 2 ?
Re: snider re-barrel
Replacement parts are permissable as long as the gun doesn't become just a sum of it's parts....
There was a dealer at Bisley with a S58 Winchester. An 1886 vintage of a model 1886, in .40-82 cal. Had come from the US with a new barrel and new internals for the mech and fully restored incluing case colours. The receiver, furniture, lever, mag tube and sights were the original parts. Supposedly that was good enough to maintain it's status.

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Not sure about that Simon, coming in from the states is one thing but if you had a barrel made and fitted in the UK wouldn't the newly made barrel need to require an FAC slot when sold as soon as it was chambered?

Re: snider re-barrel
it seems if the replacement barrel is an existing original (18/19c) then its ok but if its a new manufacture, then its fac, Arthur has an original.

Re: snider re-barrel
Oo er.....
Then surely if being imported with a new barrel, then it must be an FAC item as well?
This needs looking at urgently, or I may have a "problem"!!
