303 or 7.62

I am looking for an Enfield but i am undecided which one to go for,
i like the thought of 303 as this was the original caliber,but 7.62 amunition
is readily availiable and cheaper.I dont want a rifle that i can`t shoot because
availibility of ammo,does anyone know if 303 is still being made.

Sellier and Bellot and Privi both make .303 plus Kynamco make low runs of well priced stuff on the original machines.

303 ammo is readily available most gun dealers sell it.
The components to re load for 303 can easily be purchased bullits cases etc primers are not a problem
A easy cartridge to re load 174g bullit 41grains of Vitavouri N140 works a treat in all my 303 rifles.

Yeh I'm running the same, I just set up my lee powder thrower and can soon load up 100 rounds.

I use Vectan SP9 in my P14 which is a ball powder and can churn loads out with a Harrell faster than I can push bullets in. I use 39.7 grains of N140 in my 4(T) which makes for a nice accurate load.

S&B and Privi brass are both OK for reloading as well.

Go for an L8 or Sterling conversion and you'll have the best of both worlds - a "proper" No4 that shoots 7.62!

My first full bore rifle was a 7.62 "ENFORCER" Style No4. It grouped OK with with some RG not with others. It did not like fast loading and more than one it was nearly hurled into the trees on Short Siberia as I tried to shoot a McQueens with it.
I have seen several other 7.62 Enfield's also have problems feeding quickly and wonder if it is a common problem.

From a competition point of view, should you be interested in competing with your Enfield, you may find that courses of fire are written for .303 ammunition and that you would be unable to have your score count should you use 7.62.

I have used a 5.56 Enfield and that was lovely!

Marlin, if you like the look of the classic SMLE there are always the Indian built Rifle 7.62mm 2A.
