Interesting about the concept of the BLM land. Britain being so small every square inch is owned (not least by the Crown) but the US is so vast that much of it cannot be 'owned' as such. Must be quite an interesting study in land law!

Even though the U.S. is a big place all the land is owned by someone, a corporation or some government agency. For example the City of Los Angeles owns a pretty good chunk of land in Bishop CA a considerable distance from the city limits of L.A., hours north of the city. For outdoors types the west is best because the federal land (as long as it isn't a military reserve) is open for use of some type compared to the midwest and east where private land owners have most of the land and usually block its use by others. Then there are the indian reservations which are nations unto themselves and sometimes prohibit access to non tribemembers.

Can you imagine loading up your Jeep with your guns and ammo (plus some food if you want) and heading out there for the day or weekend. Set up camp, put out targets at 300 - 1000 yds and just have a great time.

It's funny to hear our colonial cousins moan about their gun laws when you see pictures like these and knowing you can just use the land.
