Cheers, I have added a reply.
Re: S Class shooting - a discussion
Am I right to think there is some interest in a simple lightweight class such as this?
This has been discussed elsewhere and in a nutshell a simplified base specification would be:
The rifle has to be carried to the point on a sling if allowed or in a simple slip.
Must go in a slip with the bipod attached.
Must be deer legal in England or Scotland
Must be fed from the magazine and not single loaded unless it is a break type rifle
Must have a safety catch.
Scope must dial down to 12 or be fixed below 12.
No rear bag
No sighters
26" maximum barrel length excluding moderator if fitted
Weight - I feel it needs to have a limit on it so lets say 7.5Kg all up including bipod and sights,
I am not sure why there is resistance to a new lightweight discipline in shooting as this is not direct competition with any current activities, for me it just fills a gap. If anyone wants to shoot this class then PM me with your contact details and location and I will launch a friendly postal competition to test the formula, yes it is not an even playing field in some respects and there is an honour system involved however I am sure it is worth a go.
As this is not exclusive to F-B(UK) I will set up a web site where competitions details and results can be posted plus a more in depth covering of the class and I am happy to PM details to anyone who is interested. I will copy this to other forums where it has been discussed.

Dave,
I must admit, I've followed this post - on two forums - with some scepticism but I do like your final set of rules - particularly the 'no sighters, no rear bag' bit. The 'no sighters' will make this competition unique and set it apart from other all other disciplines.
The 7.5kg weight limit is generous and should enable tactical-style rifles to compete in addition to hunting/stalking kit.
Build it and they will come!

Re: S Class shooting - a discussion
I am pleased to announce that Strathpeffer Rifle and Pistol Club (SRPC) will be adding S-Class to the list of disciplines it currently caters for. :shakeshout:
SPRC does all it’s long range shooting (100-600m) at Cawdor, once a month, so most likely it will take the place of one of our practice days or will be shot alongside our F-Class competition. Once the calendar for next year has been determined, I’ll let you know.
I hope that this is just the beginning and more clubs will be adding S-Class to their shooting calendars for next year.

This is brilliant news Sandgroper, I sincerely hope more clubs adopt the discipline and it develops and grows with time. I am hoping a few more clubs will adopt the discipline and we can have some postal inter club competitions next year so if any other clubs are interested please contact myself or Sandgroper.

Yes,
that this is the start. Have you got any clubs in mind or more importantly are you planning on pressganging anybody else for the Sporting Class website!

We (Well I am!) are currently in the process of sorting out a new long range venue for 2013 - we will also then add it to our list of disciplines. (URC)

Re: S Class shooting - a discussion
I have mailed the webmaster for my club to get something posted up to see if we can get some sort of inter club competition sorted out, it will need to be postal given our locations however it could still be a lot of fun, Mike are you up for such a thing?Sandgroper wrote:Yes,that this is the start. I can add authors to http://sporting-class.com at any stage if people would like to include their clubs, competitions, results and general S Class information.
