Starting to cast your own boolits

Thanks for the heads up regarding the mold on ebay but the seller says that it doesn’t suit his 9.3x74r which is the cartridge I want to reload for, and it’s a hollow point which I wouldn’t really want anyway.
I did join the group buy on the castboolits site quite some time ago but they kept putting the delivery date further and further back and I withdrew, a pity because they have finally started delivering all be it 6 months later than originally scheduled. The end results look very good to me and I am a little annoyed with myself for being so impatient though they have had some issues with quality on the four and five cavity molds which have had to be returned to the maker for refinishing.

He says it won't regulate in his double - it would be ok in a single barrel rifle.

.307" on groove that is tight, with that I would be tempted to try one of the Lee .309"s.

Whats the throat like? Some wear on the leads would be good.

What powders do you have?

I haven't done a cast of the throat as yet, but from looking at it, it appears in very good condition. I suppose a throat cast is in order.

At the moment I've only got H4895, titegroup and lil'gun. I was going to research some loads before restocking. I am somewhat limited to the power choices up here and I won't buy powder from Inverness as the store there charges through the nose. I'm heading up to Evanton tomorrow to see the Club's Rifle Secretary (he's an RFD as well) so I can see what he stocks.

Lil gun looks about the right burning rate, fast rifle powder. Any thing in the VV N110 N120 range should do.

Aye it would have be worth sticking with, NOE make fine moulds and unlike Lee if there is a problem they will fix it. They stand behind their products 100%.

It's a double that I have.

Sorry, I meant just a general indication of starting loads for boolits in the 170-200gn range. Or alternatively if you have any favourite loads, that would be appreciated. Just something to kick me in the right direction! :lol:

With Lil gun I'd start at 16 gns and work up in stages to 22 gns in 1/2 gn increments. That powder range should give you a velocity spread of around 1350 fps to 1800 fps or so.
