Hi
Just wanted to say a quick hello, I have just become a probationary member at my local rifle club and am looking forward to some good shooting ahead aswel as some good advice from you guys & girls.
I am a shotgun certificate holder currently and enjoy shooting sporting clays (not serious just as a hobby). Target shooting has always appealed to me and after having a little go of a friends .22lr (CZ Silouette I believe?) I really enjoyed it. Anyway like I say on probation now and looking forward to eventually getting my FAC , I know its early days but have been looking around and think a .223 looks like a good low cost fullbore entry point for hobby shooting maybe somthing along the lines of a Savage Edge, is it worth extra ammo cost of .308 for a hobby shooter??
Thanks in advance for the help and advice im sure I will recieve from you all at one time or another!

Welcome to the forum Molex81. The one advantage of .308 is distance, the .223 is a fine rifle out to 600 however if you wish to get to 1000 and maybe even more the .308 has the legs. Ammunition wise .308 will always be more expensive to feed unless you opt for something chambered in 7,62x51 and shoot milsurp and even then the .223 is going to be cheaper at around GBP20/100 for cheapie 55/63Grn ammunition.
Regardless of final choice I am sure you have a lot of fun times in front of you and the Savage is always going to be an accurate rifle. If possible look for something with a heavier barrel.

Hello!
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!
Re: Hello to you all!
Thanks for the welcome guys...
I think I will be going for a savage in .223 to get me started as its in budget and like you say ammo is good value which is important to me when added to all other start up costs like buying extra cabinet as my shotgun one is a single, then club joining fee and then membership fees , range fees , insurance all on top of my existing clay club ,the Mrs is not going to be happy
In terms of scopes I have no experiance at all, for a starter like me on a .223 shooting from 50-600yds what is required in a scope (features) and what should i expect to be paying..
Cheers
