Buying gun parts over the internet

#1 Post by HALODIN »

Hello,

I did a quick search but there were too many posts to check though... So just a quick question. Am I correct thinking you CAN'T legally buy licensed gun components over the internet? By licensed I would suggest the bolt, [upper|lower] receiver and barrel are the only licensed parts. So you should be OK to buy triggers, scopes, furniture for a certain calibre rifle on your FAC? Perhaps the only real issue is getting someone to post it to you... I appreciate you are liable for VAT and import duty, but it was more a question of legality.

Any thoughts or experience of doing this?

Cheers,

Craig.

Sort of...but not 100% correct

You CAN buy parts & even complete guns over the internet; you just cannot take delivery of them...they need to be routed via an RFD

Non-Section 1/ Section 2 items can be delivered directly as you'd already guessed

You can buy non pressure bearing parts and from the USA parts that are not ITAR restricted, you can however get over the ITAR part if needed. ITAR includes some 'scopes and stocks amongst other parts.

I just bought a Tactical Butt Stock for my Mossberg 500 from Amazon.co.uk. It was supposed to dispatched from California but in reality was sent from Israel with a customs declaration on the package stating it was a plastic toy valued at $11.00! :o

I hadn't thought of Amazon, but that's probably a good place to buy from, because the seller has to cover all import/VAT/duty costs. If you get charged more, you just contact the seller and they will refund you. I was refunded by a Chinese tablet manufacturer almost instantly, I guess they value their relationship with amazon... The price it's advertised at is the price you will pay. I doubt you had any charges at $11.00 though...
