Remy 597 very poorly!

#1 Post by M1Charles1M »

I have a remy 597 which has never been brilliant but of late has got much much worse. Firstly it started missing which is apparently a common known problem and may have a number of contributory factors but it either does not feed or does not extract/eject and spits the spent round in front of the bolt, no one seems to know what the real cure is but there are almost as many suggestions available as there are round to shoot through it.

tried ringing Edgar Bros, not much help there?

Anyway lately it got worse, much worse, on the range it miss fed so took Mag out and put in single round released bolt and 'Bang' :o so tried again and this time holding it by the Butt as I put the rifle down 'Bang' wtfwtf.

Obviously stopped using it with ammo but now the problem is permanent, cock it, tap it, it goes off, ****

It IS under Guarentee by the importers

RETURN IT TO THEM

IF THEY CANNOT FIX IT THEN YOU REQUIRE A NEW RIFLE OR A REFUND FROM THE RFD YOU BOUGHT IT FROM

...I'd go for the refund myself as the 597's have a mixed report & the early ones had a lot of magazine issues = took Remington 3 attempts to manufacture a 597 mag that worked

LOTS of better .22 semi's out there for the same or less money

Bought the Rifle two years ago from Worcestershire as a second hand so any warranty long since expired. Trying to contact Tom at EB for an opinion as to whether its worth spending money on, if not then it goes for spares, it has a Volquaratson carbon fibre match barrel on which is probably worth more than the action?

Be nice to know if anyone else has had these sort of issues with one and what the outcome was?

If I get info from tom I will let people know!

Thanks for the info! sign92

Have you given the rifle and the magazines a really good clean? I have had my 597 for 10 years, many thousands of rounds and absolutely no problems whatever. More reliable than the 10/22T that I had before.

Yes it is meticuloulsy clean, I clean all my Rifles/Shotguns/Pistols after each use so no worries in that department!

Our 597 has given no problems at all. Maybe they are one of those guns that come in 'good' and 'bad' varieties depending upon who made it, what day of the week it was, whether the 49ers won or lost et cetera...
