Hi! FAC on the way!

#1 Post by Yogi GunKanobee »

Well, I’ve been lurking and learning for about six months now, and I thought now would be a good time to say “hello”!

I joined my friends club and completed the six month probationary period and so am now a full member. It can seem so unfair to have to wait six months before you are able to apply for you FAC, but actually I’ve learnt so much in that time that with hind sight, I can honestly say waiting can be a good thing.

I applied for my FAC exactly 3 weeks ago today. This morning I had my home interview with the FAO and a female trainee. I was actually quite shocked when they called me yesterday and asked if today would ok to come round! I was expecting to wait another couple of months.

They were here for about 30mins. The first question they asked me was, “why have you applied for a FAC?” I looked at him, I guess, in a rather blank manner, and replied, “because I want to buy some firearms”. “Good reply”, he says.

To cut a short story even shorter, he was happy with everything I asked for, including moderators. The only exception was that he knocked me down on the .22 ammo from 1000/1500 to 500/600, which was the same for all the other calibres, which I find strange. I can have 600 rounds of 308, but only 600 rounds of .22. Still, I’m not complaining. He said I can ask to have it increased at a later date. Then he asked me if I wanted anything else. I said, “Well, if there had been room, I would have put down for a 50mm muzzle loading pistol....”. “Fine, I’m happy to add that”, he said. So, I ended up for more than I asked!

I’m expecting my shiny new FAC by the end of next week, and of course I can start the ball rolling now!

WHAT is a 50mm muzzle-loading pistol?
5cm, just under 2" in old money.... I'm not sure, as not checked, but there is an upper limit in dia. of what can be held on an FAC

Well done Yogi :shakeshout:

It is a very good feeling to finally have the approval and holding the FAC in your hand.

...so how do we help you spend your money?

Opps, that should of course be .50, and I'm from Wiltshire.

Wow ! Starting as you mean to go on I hope !!

Oh and Sadler --- I rather liked the idea of a 50mm muzzle loading pistol -- I should have liked to fire it ,at least once anyway ,I've always been that way with pain ;¬)))

Well, for the last six months, I've been going round and round in circles as to what to buy first. I've been alternating mostly between very expensive and very cheap semi auto .22s. :cool2:

In the end I decided that although I would of course like a very expensive .22, I could use up just as many rounds in a very cheap semi auto. My mate has offered to sell me his G22 for £120, which I feel covers plinking for the time being, especially as funds are limited. So next on the list in order of importance, as I see it, would be a quality .223.

Welcome to the forum. The S&B 4-16x50 PMII is a superb 'scope and the one I run on one of the AI's here. Up until last weekend I thought it was the best 'scope in the world, then I looked down Christel's 12x56 S&B and the image was even brighter!

I was saving it for a .308, but it will be a while before I get to that part of the list! A mate from the club has just bought a brand new PMII 5-25*56. It's totally "WOW". :)
