Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley

Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
This thread really made me want to get more use out of my 54 - So I've replaced the aperture sights with a secondhand 8-32 x 50 Besonder scope for 90 quid on eblag...
...what d'ya recon?

Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
I took the 54 up the club tonight to zero it in - My intention had been to zero it for 100 yards (with long range .22 in mind), which I can do reasonably accurately by adjusting to a point 66 mm above the bull at 25 yards (worked out from a previous dabble) - However, I've just found out that they are running the mini McQueen at the Spring Action Weekend...I may well get the chance to go, and you just have to turn up; so I zero'd it at 25 yards...according to the charts posted earlier it should be 4 mins up from 25 to 50 yards (?)
At first glance that looks a good group - but as I'm not used to high magnification scopes I actually found it difficult keeping the cross hairs still; and that can definately be improved on - It's good to be on a new shooting learning curve...I've got to work out my position (possibly a rear bag?), how to adjust a scope in minutes, how to zero turrets, and now having thought about it, may have learn how to adjust the alignment of the scope if it's going to be used to 300 yrds...

Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
This event is taking place on Saturday 27th April - One of the organizers has said that they haven't had many confirmed entries yet.....so who's up for it?
Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
I have only just found this thread, its a year later now so what happened?
Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
Well it was good fun, but I made a bit of a mess of it - I did a write up in the 'range reports' section about the first meeting, here:
http://www.full-bore.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=12528
I didn't do a write up on the second meeting (Nov 9th) for a couple of reasons...one, because I wasn't sure that folk were very interested (only got 1 PM), and also because I had a flukey day and won the bloody thing (was quite surprised!), so didn't want to be seen to be blowing my own trumpet...
...the event was another success, with a few more competitors (24 I think?), and Richard Kenchington, who has superbly organised and run both events, put up prizes from first to last...first prize was a bottle of Glenmorangie
There will definitely be another event (end of April is penciled in at the moment), but we're waiting on the NRA to find out if they will run it or whether it will be run independently again...
...when I have confirmed details I will post them on the forum.

I'm interested, I've always loved lobing 22s as far as they will go. Used to play with them at targets of opportunity on the lochs of an evening, if there wasn't too much wind causing a chop then you could easily see the fall of shot on the water and walk the rounds onto the "target".

I'm lucky as my club down here shoots classics at 200 and 300, so I can sneak some quality practice in with the .22...Dave 101 wrote:I would like to get into the long range .22 but have no where to practice so its a bit of a moot point

Can you get out to 100 yards?...it would be enough to sort your windage zero, and give you an indication of what you'd have to wind on for 200 and 300....it's about 20 mins from 100 to 200, and another 26 to 300.
