Need a good mid priced scope

Which Fox scope?, I've seen reference to the 8-32 but there's not one listed. There's a 10-40X50 or a 8-34X56 Hakko but of course no prices listed for anything on the site (major annoyance!!!) :)

I've got Fox's latest Chinese 8 -32 with me now for a review. For £110 it's an amazing scope. Might be worth ringing him if you want one.

Thanks for the advice! I'd not considered the Sightron ones, nor the Fox scopes, but I'll certainly be looking into them now.

I'm wondering if it's worth putting together a beginner kit list for target rifle shooting or something to prevent this type of question being asked again. Something like a cheap, medium and expensive/dream list of kit for shooting broken down by rifle, scope and ammunition or something.

Three secondhand rifles are being prepared for the club shooter to cover 200-1,000 yards, and done on a budget.

Rifle #1 Savage 12 Long Range Precision Varmint sporter. Was 204 Ruger, rebarrelled to .223 Rem with a 26" 1-7.5" twist barrel (to handle 90s), Fox 8-32X50 @£105, Versa-Pod tactical folding bi-pod. 2nd to 5th F/TR places in Diggle 300/500/600 yard matches including competition from several national squad members and their long-range 308s. Best for up to 600 yards, but actually 1K-capable, and certainly competitive to 800.

Rifle #2 .308W Howa 1500 Varminter bought s/h at an excllent price with 20-MOA taper rail and 30mm mounts from the classifieds in another UK shooting forum. 22-inch barrel is the limiting factor but shoots very well. Another Fox 8-32X50 fitted and the Versa-Pod switched between it and the Savage. Total cost ~£750 on the range. Will be used in PSSA club matches at Diggle in due course. I have a 30-inch Bartlein 1-13" Palma profile barrel to fit at a later stage to give it more legs for longer ranges.

Rifle #3 .308 Paramount TR rifle with Krieger 1-13" barrel bought s/h from Fox firearms. Currently with Osprey Rifles getting a 20-MOA taper Picatinny rail fitted. S/h Fito-Force F/TR bi-pod from Osprey for £100 and s/h but brand new Sightron 8-32X56 LRTD at £650 to be used. Rifle will be used at all ranges up to 1K. Total cost ~£1,500 all-in, about £200-300 more than a new Remy 700PSS or similar in 'bare condition'.

On the scope question, undoubtedly Sightron for target shooting. I now have four 8-32s, split equally between the LRTD (FCH+dot) reticle and the LRMOA model with easy-zero tactical type turrets and the 2-MOA fine hash-mark reticle.

You'll also find many excellent rifle-buld / modification projects covered in the magazine, many by Vince Bottomley (Gun Pimp on this and other forums) and Vince has done many excellent scope reviews over the years, although I don't think the issues they're in are accessible right now while the online magazine's website is being rebuilt.

I remember reviewing your 8-32 Sightron, a Fox Chinese 8-32 and a 8-32 Hakko. The Sightron blitzed it in every respect - optics, adjustment accuracy and most internal adjustment. However, the Fox Chinese fared better than the Hakko if I remember.

I still have my Falcon Menace although now use a Sightron at 3 times the price.

I will not sell it as it proved to be a much better scope than the price suggested, handling my first couple of years F Class shooting without any problems. Tracking on my one was first rate, returning to zero every time. I only upgraded as the magnification on my scope was only 18x and not what I needed for F Class.
My first scope had an issue and was replaced very quickly and with not problems under warranty. In fact I was given an upgrade as way of an apology.

These scopes are clearly from the same stable as the Foxy optics - they look identical with that ugly turret-block.

Nothing wrong with them - for £100 but Falcon are charging £200-300!

The latest Foxy scope doesn't have that ugly turret-block and the controls work as they should - smoothly.

I beg to differ on the above-Brians scopes are almost identical to Zos scopes (not saying that they are made by Zos as I dont know) but they differ greatly to the Falcons, yes the "ugly turret block" is a square format but so are, for example IOR's and a close inspection of the Falcons shows different turrets, turret stem markings, mag ring, rear lens housing, choice of rectiles and overall finish. I have compared the Zos scopes to Falcons and would choose a Falcon every time purely on optical quality and finish alone. Having said that, I had a chat with Brian recently and had a good look through one of his latest offerings and it was impressive for the price.........bloody confusing mine-field this scope thing sign01

Brians 8-32's are under the same description as the 4-16's (the first scope at the top of the page)
