Need a good mid priced scope

Just had a look at the Falcon Optics website DM

These scopes are clearly from the same stable as the Foxy optics - they look identical with that ugly turret-block.

Nothing wrong with them - for £100 but Falcon are charging £200-300!

The latest Foxy scope doesn't have that ugly turret-block and the controls work as they should - smoothly.

I beg to differ on the above-Brians scopes are almost identical to Zos scopes (not saying that they are made by Zos as I dont know) but they differ greatly to the Falcons, yes the "ugly turret block" is a square format but so are, for example IOR's and a close inspection of the Falcons shows different turrets, turret stem markings, mag ring, rear lens housing, choice of rectiles and overall finish. I have compared the Zos scopes to Falcons and would choose a Falcon every time purely on optical quality and finish alone. Having said that, I had a chat with Brian recently and had a good look through one of his latest offerings and it was impressive for the price.........bloody confusing mine-field this scope thing sign01

Brian's scopes are made by ZOS - but not his latest one. A lot of the Chinese scope companies exhibit at IWA and it's easy to spot the ZOS features. Companies like ZOS are happy to mix n match on reticles, turrets etc. providing you order enough! It's also easy to see that a lot of retailers enjoy a healthy mark-up - and why not?

I admit I've not had the opportunity to review a Falcon but, if anyone would loan me one, we can put that right.

I have a 4-14 x 44 ffp and a 5-25 x 56 ffp that have been on 308's for a few thousand warm rounds and so far they have performed admirably. My once slight gripe is the zoom rings are a bit stiff (especially in the cold!) and they are a bit finicky with eye relief. I'll have a look on the club calendar and see if the 5-25 wont be being used for a while, you are more than welcome to borrow it.

The last world champs F/TR was last won by a Sightron....

They are not Marches, IORs, S&B, Nightforces I know, but they do a damned good job for the cost and have a lifetime warranty.

They also have a choice or rets, including a long range MOA rather than mil dot, as well as the target dot rets (which I find ideal for F/TR).

Would I trade it for a better scope?

Hell yes....if I could justify 2.5k for the latest must haves but it does a job and does it well, an dyou know, I dont suddenly see all the scores shooting up, or even going up

The only down side (which is easilly fixed with some thin tape and a fine lumi) as that the elevation verniers run High/Low/High (dont start at 0 and go up) and they dont have a bi directionally numbered wind turret, but then most dont.

If you dont mind a bit of tape, or count clicks (I cant count so that's buggered that) then they are a good buy.

I own an mtc taipan 6-24x56 and to be honest for the money you can't fault it. It tracks has plenty of adjustment and the glass is good(except at high mag when it becomes head position fussy). But the small floor I see as a positive as it means I have to keep my head in the same position every time.
