GEO TAG - Danger

#1 Post by Dangermouse »

Members,

Many of us have enjoyed the ease of posting pictures of our pride and joys on the forum using digital cameras and the cameras on our mobile phones.
However, did you know to turn off your Geo tag option before doing so?

Geo Tag lets you trace, to within round 15 yards, using googgle earth, where the photo was taken. I am sure that you would not purposely advertise to the world that you have x y or z at your address, but in effect you are letting anyone with the relevant soft wear know what you have and where you are.

To be burgled is horrible, to be specifically targeted would be even worse.
Of course we are not just talking about burglary here, all kinds of anti shooting and anti hunting types will also be able to use this information against you.

Apparently the same information can also be taken from tweets and other social websites, which log your position when you post a message. IE having a wonderful day in Paris = I am not at home burgle me!

I am now off to 192.com pipl and 123people to have all my personal information removed. Should you care to search one of them you might be shocked at how much information is available to anyone for as little as £1.

This is not just possible but is now happening,

Good post blu.

And good luck with 192.com and all those others who hold info on you...In the UK if they have a licence to hold info then they'll hold it, yes there are rules as to what each perosn can hold and for how long but the numbe rof poeple who have ought your info is astronomical I'll bet..

However so called credit reference agencies seem to hold an inordinate amount of info. I always bin those "marketing surveys" usually by equifax, they're just info gathering from the mugs who fill them in.

Long story short, you will never get through all the people who have info on you if you live till you're a hundred

Watched a documentary on this when doing a post grad dip a few years back..a reporter tried to follow who had his nfo and why....some "holders" were seriously secretive and scary people...wish i could remeber what it was called.
