Quite a sporty little thing as well

Re: Old bike pics anyone?
Did you notice the SA HD (Sturmey Archer heavy duty) hand change gearbox? I have a feeling the 488 ran a three speed but I could be wrong.

Re: Old bike pics anyone?
He nearly killed himself on one of these back in the early 60s...
When he used to go sniffing around Murmansk, he'd leave it at home for me to warm up every Saturday morning...he gave me a go of the Triumph after he sold that with the strict instruction...don't open the throttle like you do on the scooter..
Never had a bike myself...he wasn't a very good advert for safety...he used to ride it back to South Coast before the M4 was built.
I hated it when he went back.

yes you can see the gate on the tank (Right hand side) and the lever lying parallel to the tank, you can be very slick with a hand change once used to it and upshift without a clutch if you get the revs right.Robin128 wrote:On the tank?

Bnz passed his test on a kettle at the tender age of 17.ovenpaa wrote:Last time I was at Olivers Mount I was on a Kettle.
I love how nobody has passed comment on the fact that you had a bike in your house. :)
When we ran a race team we lived in a nasty area with no garage so I suggested bringing the bike indoors. Fitted in our living room really nicely. I will scan some pictures of it tomorrow, can't do it now as I will wake bnz up.
Never say something in Cyberspace you can't say Face to Face!!

Re: Old bike pics anyone?
Motorbikes always seem to get into houses at some stage, I had a Clubmans Road Rocket as a permanent feature in the living room in Derbyshire and even assembled an early 1940's 350 RE single in my bedroom when I was a lot younger. I ride a BMW flat twin these days and it is just too wide to get through the front door

Bro and I totally stripped the Lambretta clutch and overhauled the T100a...in the middle-room.
Let's see...on the Triumph...new exaust pipes and silencers, rocker boxes off and valves re-cut...hypoid pistons...had recesses in them...and new rings...brakes re-shoed...new folks...primary chain case was off...must have also done the clutch. Remember COD?
All his smacks were around Petersfield.
Brayleys bike shop Swansea...end of the Kingsway...opposite YMCA...dear me...memory still working. Got one pipe from Fforest, Pontarddulais.
He sold Trumpy a few years ago.
