RFDs = ignorant of the law??

#1 Post by saddler »

http://www.gunstar.co.uk/Display-Gun-Fo ... 139499&r=1

An 18" barrel semi-auto
...a Section 5 gun, listed as SECTION ONE.

Anyone want to nip in & pick it up, what could possibly go wrong?

Has there been a recent strain of Doofus-itis that only attacks RFDs??
Last month I saw another RFD selling a bolt action shotgun, with a 10-round magazine, as a S.2 !!

Other RFD's seem to think that .22 BRNO bolt actions are S.2

I've also spoken to RFDs that seem to think it is ok to mail primers and blanks in the regular post

If anything the above are becoming more common....

It has now been changed to Sec 5!

RFD's in the UK have been slow to wake up to the power of the internet and on line shopping as it is for firearms. Both in advertising and in customer relations through email etc.
It would not surprise me to learn that the RFD is not the one putting the adverts on these sites, or have little understanding of how the listings template work. Possibly even putting on several at one time and forgetting to change one of the parameters. It is common to see a strange item appear in a list when carrying out a search for a specific item.

I assume that there are no tests involved in becoming a RFD and that once a licence is gained they can deal in a broad spectrum of firearms and related items. I would not be too surprised to find out that I had more knowledge on a specific item than the person selling if that item was not their main core business.
In fact picked up two magazines this week from a dealer who did not know what they were.

Not an easy subject to master, guess it is a case of buyer beware. I was given a Sec2 shotgun instead of a sec1. It was not until I could not get the cartridges in that I realised the mistake. Technically, I was illegally in possession of that shotgun, even though it had been (wrongly) entered on my FAC. A quick call and letter to my FEO covered me to get it back to the RFD, who then called the supplier and had the correct item sent out.

Minefield it certainly is.

Here we go:http://www.gunstar.co.uk/Shotgun/BSA-Lo ... 87638.aspx

A 410 with a removable 10-rd mag - in which it IS possible to load more than 2 rds AND by dint of being a removeable magazine, it is s S.1 gun twice over!!
I reported this muppet to the owner of the site. The advert HAD been pulled, but is now back up again....

How about ringing up the RFDs direct and telling them they're wrong rather than plastering it on here where plod and suchlike are likely to see it and go round mob-handed at 6am, a la Mick Shepherd?

...so only the forums are monitored?

Not the sales sites?

News to me

in the case of the Long Lee, I contacted the RFD

His reply
"Dear Sir
Thank you for your email
There is no magazine restriction however it is incapable of holding more than 2 rounds of .410 Cartridges as the shape of the mag differs from the shape of the cartridge. It was purchased and came off a Section 2 Shotgun certificate and therefore is being sold as Section 2."
...totally logical - NOT

If my FEO is anything to go on the police certainly will not have the time spare to sit and monitor forums or websites and will probably hope someone points out such things.

My force DOES monitor web posts....ask me how I know!! They threatened to withdraw my FAC due to some of the posts I had made in the past (& not even on firearms forums either)

I would think C&G made a typo that was not picked up. I've spoken with them in person and they are on the ball about such things.
