Pulled the trigger for the first time on the Tikka clapclap clapclap

Nice Tikka I have here, trigger is really nice and smooth, it is magazine fed and that works flawlessly as well once one gets used to yanking the bolt back to get the used cartridge out, if that is done smoothly then one has to go fishing for the cartridge, it reaches out to 800 without too much convincing, glass is gorgeous to look though...only one small thing that I am not so keen on...FARK it smacks me around

I was not wearing a sorbothane pad, I will next time.

The only .308 I have shot recently is Ovenpaa's AI and that is a totally different rifle to this little skinny Tikka.

It was what was available. A 1987 Tikka M65A, not many on the shelf...

Ahh, that rifle (just googled it) - I do remember seeing pictures of it (unusual stock), but didn't know you'd got it - There's not a lot of info on t'internet about them...

There is no doubting the ability of the rifle however we both agreed the back end needs some adjusting as it did not really suit either of us so time for some fine tuning of the cheek position. part of me says ditch the original back end and build another adjustable cheek piece like I did for the Accuracy International and I am sure it would look good as well however it would not be original. The frustrating part is I cannot remove the bolt without dropping off the cheek piece which upsets the position and means faffing around next time it is used. The plus side is it does shoot quite well and is an unusual rifle.

The 12x56 German built S&B is quite simply amazing.

Having read a little about the rifle, it does seem to be a bit unusual...maybe a shame to do anything 'permanent' to it...are there any temporary options...?

Had a good shoot down here this afternoon as well - But had conditions I can't remember shooting in before; where it was dry, but with quite a strong and gusting wind straight at us...

...the main mission was to get the front sight on the Mauser zero'd for windage (took a tool for adjustment) - but due to the amount of dust and grit (and at one point a bumblebee! (great excuse for a bad shot :lol: ) ) being blown in our faces, the heat mirage off the barrel and the streaming eyes, I'm not sure if I've got it right...

...but was a lot of fun trying tongueout

Zeroing is always fun. I had shimmed the rings on the M65A to get the 'scope on mechanical zero however my calculations were out by .008" so the rifle shot high for it's 200m zero, I will correct it when I get a moment.

The rear tube is 24,85mm and the cheek piece and butt pad assembly just slide on and lock in place so it is certainly easy enough to build an alternative system that can be swapped out with the original, I have built enough butt plates in my time and have the materials for the rest so a nice curved aluminium cheek piece may be the way to go although if I had a spare original cheek piece it would just chop that up to suit....

Today I shot my new (to me) Musgrave. It shoots well, provided the nut behind the butt's up to the job (had a "few" problems with the wind on Magpie Alley at 600x...), even when fed el cheapo Seller and Belliot 147gr factory ammo.

I've fitted an iris foresight (courtesy of those nice people at HPS, only £100) but the rest of the rifle's pretty much as good as it needs to be. For some reason the ladder foresight needs 15MOA on it just to get a "normal" elevation on the rearsight, though... Roll on the Imperial!
