Gun Safe Keys

#1 Post by Paul-Andrzej »

Back on the old GT forum, I replied to a thread about security and mainly where the keys should be kept. Also, what would happen if I did not make it home ever again. No one would know where the keys are kept.

I suppose I could package up a spare set and deposit it at my bank with no indication of the contents and tell my will executors where the keys could be found?

Any other suggestions, please? :?

I wouldn't worry about it, most competant Locksmiths would be in in no time.

This is a huge can of worms, we hear of people loosing FAC's/SGC's because they had told Mum/Wife whoever where the keys or spare keys were kept. The bank is a good idea to me however not very handy when you have dropped your keys out in the middle of a field on a days shoot. Personally I lock my cabinet keys in an ammunition safe with a digital lock so I just have to remember 6 numbers to get to them, as does the wife. Downside is the battery to the digital lock could fail, however there is a key override which means I need to hide another few sets of keys.

Which I have however the wife will have no idea where they are as I doubt I remembered to tell her!

What about if you go on holiday? Do you leave your keys at home or take them with you, or leave them in the car?

Arghhhhh...........

The is a is to hide a set somewhere close to home. For example, under the floor insulation in your parent's loft, or cut out a brick there and hide them behind.. Well and truly wrapped and don't tell anyone.

I can get my spares in under 5 minutes - but it would take any of you a month of searching to find them.

That means that the BS 5 lever locks on your cabinets are as useless as the cheap gun safe you got from B&Q. Well, don't tell the Police that...otherwise????

Cherokee...told you on GT what BASC said re Leicester Police. The Police accept that a concerted search of your property, would soon reveal the second set.

Got it?

Good point Rob however these are about as far from cheapy B&Q digital things as you can get, however it is a good point and makes you wonder how many people are using less than ideal ammunition safes to keep keyes in.

I didn't get spare keys when I bought my used gun safe. (maybe I should get some cut)
I have the main keys In my pocket at all times held by a key chain. What stops my wife getting them If I full asleep? Maybe I could buy a digit lock key chain but then she could just take my hole trousers with her lol. Of course at night before bed I'll stash them somewhere secret.

Hope you got your used safe thru a reputable dealer...otherwise, somebody, who knows where you live has a set.

Yes I did and they said that the last owner had lost them out on the field. I figured that anyone could cut the spare keys If I bought the safe face to face or on Ebay with two sets anyway so the safest way to buy one I thought would be through a firearms dealer. If someone did open my safe using another key then I would know who I bought It from to be able to tell the police. :ugeek:

..and pray that the Police/CPS believe you. :ugeek: Guns gone, no evidence of forced entry into gun cabinets (house?). Wonder what insurance would have to say about that also? FAC in jeopardy.

But its just hypothetical. ;)

If the blanks are available a key cutter could make spare set.
