Hello from west Berkshire.

#1 Post by vasbyt.skollie »

Hi all.

I would like to say a quick word or three and introduce myself.

I was born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1973. Grew up on the farm in northern Transvaal shooting my first Gemsbok at 8 and had accomplished the "big five" by 17 ( all were stalked on foot as part of a cull program, so it was very ethical ).

I did three years in the South African Defence Force, 8th South African Infantry. Became a lieutenant in 12 months. Whilst doing sport on a Wednesday afternoon there was another serviceman on the range. We were both @300m using the R4 rifle and we had a little "sport". The R4 is a wonderful bit of kit and in 5.56 NATO, so accurately stretching it to 600m was thrown down to me as a challenge. It was not too difficult to get onto the target, but trying to group military ammo which is thrown together..... well it was interesting. A few days later I was called into the Colonel's office, well it turns out the other serviceman was another units Major. They had arranged for me to be transferred to the Major's unit..... sniper school. To say I was over the moon was an understatement bangbang zzzzom . I was now shooting the Barrett .50 cal out to 2000m superb.

I went to a technical high school and after the army went to west lake technical college studying plumbing and cooling. When I arrived in the UK there wasn't allot of call for coiling so changed direction and now do commercial heating instead.

Cheers for taking the time to read my intro.
