I cannot easily think of 10 things so a big floppy hat, a lot of water, sunblock and 6 ice lollies. Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate more, lack of fluids will destroy your concentration.

One final tip, try and park your car in a position where it will be shaded all day.

I got a desert cammo boonie hat which I used for the first time on Sunday due to the heat - It did what it was meant for very well ...but I'm now thinking of using one in any weather, as the shape of the brim with ear defenders on was better than any purpose shooting made hat i've tried...

The most important bit of kit will be your head, or rather what's in it.

Make sure you're not slipping around on your rifle - take a sweat towel to dry the cheekpiece (and yourself).

Be careful not to overhydrate - you may have 45 minutes on the point, and if you need to 'go' after 20 you will have a very uncomfortable shoot. Make sure to replace the salts, but avoid excessive blood sugar from some sports drinks.

I'll be wearing ultralight long trousers and a wet towel on the back of my neck if it gets really hot.

At a certain hot venue I asked the sports scientists whether I should stay in the cool until the last minute, or get into the heat and acclimatise. I seem to remember getting conflicting answers - bottom line: find out what works for you.

The same scientists set up sessions in a climatic simulation chamber, so we could experience the expected conditions. Unfortunately, after setting it up to cook us they forgot to leave the keys. I had to make do with saunas in the months leading up to the competitions.

Always be prepared for rain too!

Seriously though, good tips - Sunday (IHAMs) was the hottest I've ever competed in...I got through 2 liters of water and a flask of tea! - I also took a beer towel to cover my ammo, but ended up using it to wipe the sweat off my hands and face...I recon whether hot or wet, a couple of towels/cloths are essential kit

Quick tip if you want to cool down - put something cool, anything, on your wrists. Even a pack of wipes in a cool bag with your drinks will feel very refreshing.

And for dogs, put their feet in water.
