Ammunition Dismantling
Over the weekend I have realised that I still have 60 190 grain rounds made up for my old barrel.
I will not be using these in my current set up, so need to dismantle them.
If I pull the heads, using a kinetic hammer - It is all I have, can I
Use the heads again (thinking of giving them to a friend who is playing with 190's), and re use the powder.
I read recently of the trick of putting a foam ear protector in the hammer to protect the metplat, sounds good and I will do that.

Yes you can use it all again.

"Heads" its almost as bad a misuse of words as "nice".

Projectiles, quite a tinny word I think whereas Head is quite a woody word

I've done exactly that and put an ear plug in the bottom of my hammer and it does work.Dangermouse wrote:Over the weekend I have realised that I still have 60 190 grain rounds made up for my old barrel.

I have also now bought an RCBS collet type bullet puller that works well and caused minimal marking to the bullet.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

Re: Ammunition Dismantling
DM - the foam ear plug is an ecellent idea (but it could cause the bullet to rebound and could dent the case mouth - done that!) as the delicate meplat is easily damaged.Dangermouse wrote:

I definitely wouldn't use pulled bullets in a comp. but OK for running-in a barrel.
Cheers
