Very unusual, the norm is 30" although 32" are becoming popular especially for 'over the hill' shoots.

Only shot the weekend aggregate and the counties. Not too shabby given it was my first proper meeting for five years. Definitely going to enter the full Grand next year - provided, of course, that I can save enough over the coming year to afford the entry fees...

Does the extra barrel length give any advantage other than velocity? Come to that, is the velocity advantage worthwhile?

The big advantage of Corbetts long barrel is the increased sight base radius. Longer sight base radius means more accurate shooting. Lots of American and South African shooters have their foresights fitted to a 'bloop tube' to achieve longer sight base without the expense/weight of a longer barrel.

"Not too shabby"? - Be coy if you want, but I'll be looking the scores up when they're posted razz - Though I notice you're already preparing your excuses on another thread...something about a dodgy rear sight... razz

About the rear sight btw - you can get rear irises with the old screw thread, so you don't need the adapter.

I agree with Steve, that the main advantage of the longer barrel (more than velocity) is with the extra distance between the sights - Though it may have it's disadvantages; in that to hold the rifle in a balanced position you'd probably need fairly long arms and be able to hold a low position...so it wouldn't suit everyone...

...it'll be interesting to see if others try it...?

It appears only the prize list is published, and there's still a lot to search through there...I'm curious; what sort of scores did you put in?...I want to see if I'd show myself up - I don't think I'd get on the prize list anyway...from looking at that, it seems that anything less than a 'V' is dropping one...

It's been a good season but I've put in a lot of training time, so it's nice to see it rewarded with some good results.

My personal belief (but I couldn't prove it in a court of law ) is that pretty much anyone can get to the top level in shooting if they're prepared to put in the training time and effort. Do some cardio regularly, a bit of light weights, lots of dry firing or SCATT and regular visualisation in addition to a decent amount of live fire and you'll see your scores go up.
