Thanks for the encouragement Gaz - Getting to the final 100 of the Queens is one of the serious things on my bucket list...and one year when I get the opportunity, I fully intend to do as you describe and put the time and effort in...

Hi Gaz,

It appears only the prize list is published, and there's still a lot to search through there...I'm curious; what sort of scores did you put in?...I want to see if I'd show myself up - I don't think I'd get on the prize list anyway...from looking at that, it seems that anything less than a 'V' is dropping one...

And!...Is that the Mr G Morris on this forum who won the Daily Telegraph with a 75.13 !!??

Oh, I'm nowhere near any of the lists. "Not too shabby" by my standards means "only the one outer" normally!

Bear in mind the prizelists also work by class, to combat the "dropping a V means not getting anywhere" routine. Class X and A tend to dominate the top of the lists but it's quite possible to get into the places reserved for the Os and Ts (I did years ago and wound up in the Chairman's Prize, which was a novelty but it broke my T and relegated me to obscurity forevermore!). For the class O lists it's usually possible to squeak on with 48+ and a decent V-bull count.

Karen seems to have figured out how to search individual scores regardless of the lists, which is a facility on the website I haven't really got to grips with yet - other than for myself!

Personally I reckon it's possible to shoot 48+ regularly in TR so long as you don't fire the bad shots.

Just log in and put someone else's name or club in search box in Search for Imperial Meeting scores

Chairmans Prize doesn't affect your T status - have you ever received a medal and bar for a squadded comp or agg on the main entry form? If not you are still a T.

OK, I didn't realise it was 'classed', which would make it worth maybe shooting a few individual comps just for fun...

...that doesn't solve the problem of the Queens though - just to get through the first round you can't drop more than 3 shots in the first 21...which really means you need to be consistently shooting 49 minimum...which is my best score out of 4 shoots at 300 and 600 this year :roll:

Gaz (the other one) is sending me his training program...so I may be able to find a few things that I can do at home to make up for my lack of range time...

Anyway; regardless of scores, well done for competing...maybe see you there one year...

2+7s have a slightly different dynamic to 2+10s. It is easy to put pressure on yourself by thinking 'I can't afford to drop a shot here', but in reality you should be thinking quite the opposite. After all, you get 2 attempts at the first two shots (convertible sighters), then after that you only have 5 more to go. Easy! It should be much easier to get a 34/35 than a 49/50.

I like that way of looking at it, but I'm not at the stage of being able to rely on my sighters...though (here comes the excuse) the front sight on my rifle has been adjusted twice since I got it, so I'm just getting the proper zero...

Aye - 2+7s are much easier than 2+10s. Less time to get tired, for one! It's mostly psychological - you can afford to drop a shot at each distance, or go clean at 300x and have a snafu at the longer distances. Take a look through your scorebook: I bet you'll find a few shoots where you've got seven consecutive shots on target all inside the bull.

In the last 6 shoots at 300 I've dropped 3,3,2,2,0,3 in the first 7 shots

No it has helped thanks...out of all those I only counted my second sighter twice, but usually finished well...so I clearly need to concentrate on getting into the bull sooner...

Adopting a GazM-style anal analytic stance your average is therefore 32.75 ex 35, which means you need to improve by only 4% to make a 102 and have a good chance of passing the cut. You're practically there already!
