Custom Shotgun barrel
Well Ovenpaa has my F Class 12 gauge bolt action under his bed and has mentioned a couple of times how the barrel is only just legal - long enough.
That does not bother me, a millimetre is as good as a mile, but I do keep wondering if fitting a heavier and longer barrel might make a world of difference to the potential of this long range lobber of lead.
Any thoughts on how to source build such a thing?
At this time it is just a pipe dream, but who knows where dreams lead to?

F class 12 gauge bolt action? That sounds interesting, have you got any details on it?
Re: Custom Shotgun barrel
So far there are two of us that are stupid enough to give this a go. The idea is for prone shooting with eithrr open sights or a scope and using a bipod. Ammunition can be off the shelf or hand loaded.
Ranges will start at 100 & 200 yards. We hope to be able to safely push further back to test what is possible.
I am still to get to the range, my project has to take second place to Ovenpaas developing buisness but I hope to get some lead flying before the end of the year,

Well I had a load of new actions proofed today in London, I have a couple of rifles to finish and then the 12 bore plinker will be finished, it already has some exceptionally shiny bits made for it so get ready to wear sunglasses. tongueout
BTW DM, I was chatting to someone that was in the same sort of business as you, a rifle team chap that went on to be an armorer.

Re: Custom Shotgun barrel
I really like that idea.. I love shotguns of all types, so this piqued my interest! I'd be interested in getting involved too :)
Is your barrel smooth or rifled?
Where are you planning on shooting it?

Re: Custom Shotgun barrel
The barrel will have to be smooth, otherwise it would be a 12 gauge rifle! Sporting Services have a 12 g rifle that looks awsome but I wanted to do something more querky but at the same time something anyone with a shotgun and permission to have slug can get down and have a go.
I am concerned that this could turn in to a arms race, I have already blown £50 on the gun!

Visions of a Paradox switch barrel being the next stage.......
Re: Custom Shotgun barrel
I found a Stevens 58 for around £50 delivered. It is a bolt action but was originally designed as a poor mans gun. This is a Sec1 gun as it has a detachable 2 shell magazine.
