Looking to get my first .308. Fancy an older rifle, but should I screw-cut it? Dealer will do it for free and take off the front silver soldered front sight.... Parker Hale 1200C is the fellow.
About to make an offer, but will leaving it un-moderated be a problem or not? I'd rather not start chopping unless necessary...

I'm getting the steer that it's impolite to shoot unmoderated on a range and unhelpful to be full volume whilst stalking... I don't want to cut it though, as I'd rather keep the rifle "classic." If I do have to have a moderated rifle then I'll consider a different purchase option.

I'm not sure where this steer is coming from but on all the ranges I shoot on moderated rifles are in the minority. I shoot classic rifles and wouldn't dream of having them screw cut.
As to stalking a moderated rifle would depend really on where and how you were stalking, with a 308 I would assume reds or fallow would be the quarry so where would you be shooting them and for what reason would it need to be moderated?
I shoot deer and vermin using a .222, 6mm Mauser and .303 none of which are moderated and I certainly don't feel disadvantaged. I suppose if you were in a sort of built up area a moderator could save you some complaints from bambi shaggers living around the ground.

It would spoil a perfectly good 1200clip , don't do it , as Dromia says mods are in a minority , some folks just can't hack it .
