Advantages and disadvantages of a folding shotgun?
Can someone explain pls? I've never seen one in IRL. I was told poaching which is not my intention to do. How do You carry one on a clay range? Thx!
Re: Advantages and disadvantages of a folding shotgun?
Advantage = easier transportation from home to the range
DISADVANTAGE = UK Law states that the gun must be Minimum 40" overall length with the stock folded; so you'll need a LONG barrel = which defeats the purpose of the exercise.
Folding stocks tend to be less comfortable in use too

What about those which fold about the action? They tend to be of the shorter barrrel type and no way are they 40" when folded. Or does the fact that the action is inoperable when folded remove the 40" requirement?saddler wrote:Advantage = easier transportation from home to the range

Thought the OP meant folding stock
The 40" length rule is for semi & pump actions
I've seen some very unusual folding shotguns...one of the neatest was a bolt action 410, and the hinge was built into the stock, forward of the receiver/action. Made for a very compact bit of kit...wish I could remember the name of it
LOTS of French/Italian/Belgian/Spanish folding sbs out there, some better than others.
Never wanted one, never used one, but if they do the job they're called to do then all for the good...

I thought semis and pumps were sec1 and 12/24 rule?

Semi and pump shot guns (whether S1 or S2) must conform to the 24"/40" rule.
Re: Advantages and disadvantages of a folding shotgun?
Yep, just re-read the regs.
Interestingly bolt action and lever action "shotguns" are 12/24, I wonder how many of them are out there
