Seemed like helpful advice to me. Your choice of title for this thread also had me thinking it was going to be an SGC bashing thread. Perhaps a more thoughtful title would have been helpful. smile2Rburro2 wrote:....Forums are for helpfull advice So unless you have something usefull to add JOG ON.Mikaveli wrote:This post is titled as another SGC bashing thread, but in actual fact the rifle wasn't the issue at all...
The thread title should be "Newbie reloader nearly causes catastrophic failure!" or "Why you shouldn't trust some random guys home loads!" or similar.

Never made a mistake Mary Poppins
However, even if the old member has been reloading for 30+ years, it still shows you can't automatically trust someone else's reloads. Like another poster had said, what if the rifle had failed as a result?
Good Job I was on the ball then wasnt it and the same discussion was had with a few other qualified RCO's the long and short of it is use your own reloads that way you can be certain secondly if letting someone else use your rifle make sure they use it with factory.
My "useful" and "helpful" addition is that both of those words only contain a single "l" at the end. :55:
Re: Sgc 9 mm Almost made it no3 in blown up unicorns
I never shoot anyone else's reloads or let anyone shoot mine. My choice. Anyone is welcome to gave a go with my guns but it will be with factory ammo. Just my choice. I've been loading for 25 years and the bloke who taught me once had a mishap...
That said, as far as the OP is concerned, had the trigger been pulled on a stuck bullet, with a live round shortened behind it, would an SGC carbine have been able to contain the "result", no it wouldn't have. But then again some other guns would also not be able, but some would...

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

It Was to direct people to the fact it was a SGC 9mm, secondly you will see from my posts on the sgc catastrophic failure thread that although I cant be certain i would suspect the other failures were down to operator error or reloading error I cant really put newbie reloader the gentleman who reloaded the ammo is in his late sixtys and is an experienced reloader.judders wrote:Seemed like helpful advice to me. I echo everything that you have said, the individual concerned has probably forgotten more about firearms than I would ever hope to know.
The lesson to be learnt here is that no matter what firearm, what range, what ammunition, you should always be vigilant no matter what you're doing or who you're with. People are human, mistakes get made, the key is recognising when one happens and dealing with it accordingly.
The above post probably contains sarcasm or some other form of attempted wit, please don't take it to heart.
Re: Sgc 9 mm Almost made it no3 in blown up unicorns
Very true what you both say, I know I wouldn't accept ammo from anyone unless I knew the provenance of it, I've had a few people ask if I would do reloads for them and I've said no as I don't want to be liable should another persons gun fail as no one is perfect.bobbob wrote:Tend to agree with your comments.Mikaveli wrote:This post is titled as another SGC bashing thread, but in actual fact the rifle wasn't the issue at all...

Surely the best thing to do if someone wants to try your rifle is to stick with the ammo you have bought/reloaded for it. What if the gun had been damaged or the person was injured while trying it? Who would be responsible, the owner or the person who supplied the ammo?
We have an old boy (in his 80's) at our club who likes to shoot his .38 lbr but he reloads for this and is well known for his bad reloads and failure to occasionally put powder in the cases at times and I've seen him with a cleaning rod a couple of times trying to remove bullets from the barrel, I've also heard that he once fired 5 rounds off then wondered why the cylinder was stuck and why it wouldn't rotate only to find none of the bullets left the barrel as none of the cases had powder in and the cylinder was jammed by the 5th bullet stuck part way between the barrel and the cylinder.
Re: Sgc 9 mm Almost made it no3 in blown up unicorns
A lesson I have now learned could have been an expensive one firstly someone could have been hurt and secondly my rifle would have been expensive to repair.Sim G wrote:I never shoot anyone else's reloads or let anyone shoot mine. The point I'm trying to make is that this is what can happen with the SGC 9mm if it had been another rifle the title would have echoed the same thing but with a different make of rifle in the title
