Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley

I would like to get into the long range .22 but have no where to practice so its a bit of a moot point

It's said to be very similar to MR, so you could practice at 1200 yards.

I'm actually shocked at that, I can't believe I was the only one to PM you about it.

What can I say but it was a great day, ok a little wet in the morning, windy in the afternoon but I absolutely loved it. Ok I finished somewhere close to the bottom but met a nice group of people, learnt a lot and I'm looking forward to the next comp. The one thing that got me was the amount of competitors hitting the V bull time after time, especially the gentleman I marked for in the morning (200yrds) using a Henry Martini with iron sights.

It's amazing just how far that little .22 round will reach and just how accurate it can be.

Just noticed the trial they are having for a new comp.
Sounds like a sort of .22lr F-Class.
Shot at 200 / 300 / 400 yards.

200m GRSB (.22RF) events will be held at the Gallery Rifle Spring Action Meeting at Bisley - 22/23 March if you fancy a go.

As you say, it was 'a little wet' in the morning - what I found interesting was that although it poured down, because there was almost no wind, the rain its self had very little effect on a .22 at 200 yards

Thanks for the update and the comp report mate, very interesting! I'm on the look out for a Anschutz 54 for use at my indoor club and might even bring it out into the Sun on occasion. Not to sure about putting Mini Mag down it though.

I'll check - My gut feeling is its not going to have the range space. I have not spoken with Cornelius for a while either.

It would be good to have this set up over the whole weekend somewhere but feedback from people who have shot it indicates its a 50m shoot (not 25m which has been tried) and with other stuff ging on its not easy to find a range.

There will be a new Steels layout on Sticks to refresh that event.

Yes it needs to be 50m rather than 25m - At 50 it really does feel like a scaled down version of the full-bore event; especially in respect of ease/difficulty of hitting the V-bull, which at 50m is approximately the same diameter as a .22 bullet...

As you say, this causes difficulty finding space for it...the mechanical target system (which is just brilliant) takes a little time to set up so it needs a 50m bay to itself, which is difficult with all the other events taking place at the Gallery rifle meetings...they managed to fit it in for a day at last year's SAW, but it was impossible at the Phoenix...

Hopefully it's something that can be looked at, and I think it would be worth the effort and possible initial cost - I know it would be popular, as despite the freezing cold at the last SAW, the system was in constant use, with some people having 2 or 3 goes...

...It could even warrant a permanent place - I recently received a promotional leaflet* about the 'pay and play' clay range on Long Siberia; where you can buy tokens and then operate the launcher yourself...Mini McQueen could be run on a similar basis...


*I received the leaflet from my TR club...funny that, with us meant to be so 'narrow minded'...
