what loads for .357/.38 Taurus LBR

I've just got myself a Taurus LBR IN .357 to go with my underlever in same calibre.

Just wondering what loads people use, I currently use 4.6gr of N320 with a gm 158gr hardcast truncated cone lead bullet in .38 special case for my underlever but do I need to use a faster powder/lighter bullet for the shorter barrel of the LBR and I've not done any development on .357 magnum loads yet ?

So what are other owners preferred loads in both .357 & .38 ?

I do have Lee moulds to make wadcutter and semi wadcutter bullets too, I think they come out about 140gr

Yeah I did that on Thursday, did 50 of my reloads and 50 magtech .38 specials just messing about shooting at skittles. Just interested in what others are using

Honestly, the load you're using is pretty standard. There will be those using Unique, Bullseye, TightGroup and the likes, but all variations on a theme. Middle of the road bullet weight and a fast powder.

Want something completly different? 180gn LTC, 7gns of 2400. Stout, but standard pressure. And will take it out nicely to 50 and 100...

5.4gn of titegroup under 125gn Rainier leadsafe (copper plated) bullet worked for me. At the moment I can't be bothered to go through MidwayUK to get more - so I'm in load development at the moment.

I use the same load in Marlin .357mag underlever as I do in my Ruger LBR:

5.0gr N340 under a 180gr truncated cone GM Hardcast.
I have equivalent loads with Bullseye (3.6gr) and GM3.

I always found the 180gr more accurate than lighter bullets, with the exception of hollow-based wad cutters.

I use some stout loads under hand cast 200gr bullets but these might be too long for your cylinder (and only really of any use for long range pistol.

3 gn of gm3 seems a popular one, and gm3 is cheap!!!!! Remember not to get bogged down with pistol loads, it's not a pistol it's a hand held rifle and has a barrel of equivalent length so as such look for carbine loads......

The "standard" load around this part of the world seems to be 2.9 to 3.2 grains bullseye with 148 w/c

Works in both Marlin 1894 and Taurus / Ruger LBR's and 38 or 357 cases.
